The cluster aims to coordinate education activities in the humanitarian response.  It allows partners to share information, and ensures the harmonization of field activities in accordance with the minimum standards of education in emergencies.  In 2012, the Education Cluster will focus on areas of conflict including displaced and refugee populations.  The objectives of the response plan are ensuring access to school facilities in conflict zones, establishing standards for child-friendly schools and capacity-building of those involved in managing education programmes.
