The health cluster in the CAR is the mechanism that brings together humanitarian and development actors working in health with the Ministry and Health and bilateral partners. Under the leadership of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the health cluster’s main aim is to improve the response to identified health problems in the CAR. The health cluster has three levels of coordination: 1) the strategic level through monthly meeting of health partners coordinated by WHO representative, 2) the technical level through monthly meeting between humanitarian and development partners coordinated by the WHO technical advisor and the international NGO Merlin and 3) the operational level under the joint supervision of the health region and the international NGO operating in the region. The health cluster is sub-divided into six sub-clusters operating in the six health regions. The NGOs Cordaid (region 1), Merlin (regions 2 and 6), IMC (regions 4 and 5) and Mentor Initiative (region 3) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health insure coordination of these operations.
